While serving with Company I 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Seay carried messages under heavy shell fire and even after being wounded returned to continue his work, thus rendering valuable aid to liaison. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Milo Berry Seay (ASN: 547509), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Crezancy, France, 15 July 1918. Although wounded, Corporal Seay continued to perform his duties as runner, and, after having his wounds dressed, immediately returned to duty.
