By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Charles Seagraves (ASN: 241692), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company F, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on July 15, 1918, Sergeant Seagraves was in command of the right flank platoon of Company F at Fossoy, France, in the Gland sub-sector which was attacked by a greatly superior force of the enemy on the flank, and practically wiped out. Sergeant Seagraves on his way back to his Company Post of Command, being once captured, but killing his captors and escaping, upon reporting at the Company Post of Command, he was placed in command of a force of about 100 men which he led with the greatest intelligence and coolness, driving the enemy back from the right of the sector.
