The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Charles Schultz (ASN: 1389693), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 132d Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Forges, France, 26 September 1918. While his platoon was being held up by machine-gun fire, Private Schultz braved the hazardous fire by going forward and driving out the crew after which he captured the gun. He died from wounds received in the exploit.
