The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Raymond Anthony Schoberth, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 359th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bantheville, France, 1 November 1918. Lieutenant Schoberth continued to lead his platoon after being wounded in the arm by a machine-gun bullet. He set an excellent example for his platoon by his courage and disregard for personal danger. This gallant officer was later killed by a shell fragment.
