The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Armor) Tom W. Saul, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 327th Tank Battalion, Tank Corps, American Expeditionary Forces, near the Bois-de-Remieres, France, 12 September 1918. First Lieutenant Saul coolly exposed himself to enemy fire by standing on the parapet of a trench and directing his men in the work of getting the tanks forward.
