The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Bradley V. Sargent, Jr., United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 11th Field Artillery, 6th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Romagne, France, 27 October 1918. Under heavy shell fire, disregarding his own safety, Lieutenant Sargent remained on duty superintending the unloading of ammunition until he was mortally wounded.
