War Department, General Orders 78 (1919)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Supply Sergeant Alexander Leroy Ruddock (ASN: 2387986), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 60th Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bois-de-Juvigny, France, 12 October 1918. Having been left behind to care for the equipment of the company, and, seeing the difficult position in which the company had been placed and noticing that a large number of his comrades were being evacuated because of wounds, Sergeant Ruddock joined the company and assisted in pushing the advance to its objective. He remained until the remnants of the command had been ordered back out of range of friendly artillery. He was mortally wounded on 10 November 1918, after routing out two machine-gun nests.
