Rosell (ASN: 2061784), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Rosell distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action on the Meuse, France, 26 September 1918, in charging with two other soldiers, a battery of two 77 field pieces. [This award was rescinded under GHQ, American Expeditionary Forces, Citation Orders No. 8 (March 1, 1920) as the recipient has been awarded a Distinguished Service Cross for deed including this act.]

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private William Erick Rosell (ASN: 2061784), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the Meuse-Argonne offensive, France, 26 September 1918. With three other soldiers, Private Rosell charged and captured a battery of three .77 fieldpieces which, protected by machine guns, were firing point blank on the position held by his company. This deed enabled his company to continue the advance.
