The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Joseph Robins (ASN: 1212534), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 107th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. During the thick of the fighting against the Hindenburg line, Sergeant Robins voluntarily went forward to locate friendly troops and, in doing so, he was obliged to pass between two strongly fortified enemy nests from which a deadly fire was pouring. Despite the fact that he was badly wounded, he communicated with the infantry and returned to his position.
