The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Robert Riggsby (ASN: 91713), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 165th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Landres-et-St. Georges, France, 14 October 1918. When the advance of his platoon was held up by machine-gun fire, Private Riggsby went forward alone, killed one and captured five of the enemy machine-gun crew, and succeeded in silencing two machine-guns, thus permitting his platoon to continue their advance.
