The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Archie Riddick (ASN: 1320610), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company F, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vaux Andigny, France, 19 October 1918. When the position of his company had become untenable because of enemy machine-gun and artillery fire, Private Riddick, with another soldier, the sole survivors of a Lewis machine-gun team, covered the retreat of their company. Clinging to their advanced post throughout the day, they took up the advance with the company at dusk that evening.
