The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Wagoner Albert F. Richford (ASN: 88791), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Supply Company, 165th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Nonsard, France, 30 September 1918. Wagoner Richford was severely wounded by a shell fragment while driving a wagon containing rations and other supplies for his regiment over a heavily shelled road, but, disregarding his wounds, remained in charge of his wagon until the mission had been accomplished.
