The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Patrick Reynolds (ASN: 90891), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 165th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Villers-sur-Fere, France, on 30 July 1918. Private Reynolds was killed when he went out alone in the face of enemy machine-gun fire in a heroic effort to capture an enemy machine-gun nest.
