The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Thomas L. Reilly (ASN: 793032), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 21st Machine-Gun Battalion, 7th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vieville, France, 1 November 1918. During a heavy barrage of high-explosive and gas shells Corporal Reilly assisted an officer to give first aid to a wounded officer and two soldiers after the platoon had withdrawn from that position. He went to the rear for medical aid and passed through the barrage the second time as he returned.
