The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Antonio Reggiardo (ASN: 2265023), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 363d Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Waereghem, Belgium, 31 October 1918. Sergeant Reggiardo, then corporal, voluntarily went forward with a squad of men to combat hostile machine-gun nests, which had held up the advance of four companies. After the squad leader had been killed he took command and, directing a heavy fire of automatic rifles and rifle grenades, he drove back the advance German posts and cleared the way for the further progress of his company.
