The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Raymond Emerson Reed (ASN: 1214619), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company F, 108th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. With great courage Private First Class Reed went through heavy machine-gun and shell fire to the rescue of two wounded soldiers, whom he carried to our lines after dressing their injuries.
