The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Fred C. Redick, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 146th Infantry Regiment, 37th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Montfaucon, France, 26 September 1918. Severely wounded in the head and leg while leading his company, Captain Redick refused to go to the rear, though he was ordered to do so by the battalion commander and attending surgeon, continuing in the attack and inspiring his men by his conspicuous bravery.
