The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Roy Raykman (ASN: 145213), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Battery A, 151st Field Artillery, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near the Cote-de-Chatillon, France, 26 October 1918. During a heavy bombardment of his ammunition train, when one man and twelve horses were killed and several men wounded, Sergeant Raykman displayed coolness and quick judgment in cutting loose the dead horses and straightening out the train. He then returned through the shell fire and searched in the darkness until he found all the wounded.
