    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Lieutenant Colonel (Armor) Daniel Dee Pullen, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Tank Corps, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Bois-de-Cuisy, France, 26 September 1918. Colonel Pullen displayed conspicuous gallantry and leadership in directing a tank attack on the Bois-de-Cuisy, after which he rallied a force of disorganized infantry, leading it forward in the face of violent machine-gun fire, and occupying the ground which had been taken by the tanks.
