War Department, General Orders 64 (1919)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Philip W. Prevost (ASN: 2284906), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 364th Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Eclisfontaine, France, 28 September 1918. A combat group had worked its way far ahead, when the remainder of the line was held up by heavy bursts of machine-gun fire, and the order to dig in and hold the position was given. Private Prevost volunteered to carry the message through heavy machine-gun fire to the combat group, which was still advancing. He delivered the order and returned with information which enabled the battalion to make dispositions for the capture of the line of enemy machine-gun nests and the saving of the combat group.
