The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Carl William Theodore Prause, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 118th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vaux-Andigny, France, 11 October 1918, While leading his company in attack, Lieutenant Prause was wounded by shell fire, but he remained for three days thereafter without medical aid directing the steady progress of his command in the face of the enemy’s determined resistance.
