The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Walter Potter (ASN: 1977989), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Bois-de-Harville, France, 10 November 1918. Private Potter volunteered and crawled out in the face of heavy enemy fire to attack a machine-gun nest. He killed the four members of the enemy crew, inspiring the men serving with him by his example of heroism.
