By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Daniel C. Poplin (ASN: 2339323), United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company H, 4th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Roncheres on 29 July 1918, Private Poplin displayed great courage and devotion by repeatedly carrying messages between his own and another company across an open field swept by very heavy machine gun and sniper fire and was killed while on one of these missions.
