The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Medical Corps) Maurice Charles Pincoffs, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 2d Sanitary Train, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Blanc Mont, France, 9 October 1918. After a withdrawal of the line had been made, Captain Pincoffs voluntarily crossed an open field under heavy fire to a small wood, where he located a number of wounded men, whose injuries he dressed, and directed their evacuation without further casualties.
