    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal Holgar Peterson (ASN: 1709115), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 308th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Charlevaux, France, October 3 – 7, 1918. While leading a scouting party, Corporal Peterson encountered an enemy patrol and displayed exceptional courage and leadership in killing the officer and two soldiers who composed it. He repeatedly volunteered for dangerous patrol work with great bravery and aggressiveness, until he was killed.

No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Holgar Peterson (ASN: 1709115), United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Corporal Peterson distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 308th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Charlevaux, France, 3 – 7 October 1918, in volunteering for dangerous patrol work.
