The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Donald A. Pegg (ASN: 11076), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 12th Machine-Gun Battalion (Attached), 4th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near the Bois-des-Ogons, France, 30 September 1918. While engaged in administering first aid under terrific machine-gun fire, Private Pegg voluntarily went to an especially dangerous position to care for a wounded soldier, and in so doing was himself killed.
