The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Albert Johnson Peaden (ASN: 1878105), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 118th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vaux Andigny, France, 11 October 1918. While delivering a message, Private Peaden was seriously wounded by a bullet which entered his cheek and passed through his lower right jaw, but he refused to be evacuated and continued on duty until the following day. Upon reporting to the aid station he was evacuated to the hospital, where the wound was found to be so serious that he was compelled to remain there for several weeks.
