    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Arthur Jerald Paradis (ASN: 671590), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 103d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near the Belleau Wood, France, July 18 – 24, 1918. Private Paradis volunteered as a runner and carried messages through heavy concentrations of machine-gun fire. Single-handed, Private Paradis penetrated an enemy outpost and killed all of the Germans who were on guard there.
