While serving as a Company Runner with Company H, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the River Marne, near Chateau-Thierry, France, 15 July 1918, Private First Class Paradis carried messages through a heavy barrage to the Battalion Commander. His reports were always clear and accurate and the Battalion Commander was able to get correct information concerning the progress of the action. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Albert Dewey Paradis (ASN: 551481), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Mezy, France, 15 July 1918. Private Paradis carried numerous messages for his company commander across an area swept by heavy machine-gun fire. His courage when exposed to unusual danger enabled his battalion commander to obtain accurate information of the action.
