The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Fred Olsen (ASN: 2266496), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 364th Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Eclisfontaine, France, 27 September 1918. With two other soldiers, Sergeant Olsen volunteered and went 300 yards beyond our outpost lines, through heavy shell fire, to bring in a wounded private of his regiment. The mission was promptly and successfully accomplished.
