The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant George Oiler (ASN: 39327), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company F, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vaux, France, 1 July 1918. Sergeant Oiler volunteered and led a liaison patrol through a thick woods known to be strongly held by enemy machine-guns. After being severely wounded, he brought back four prisoners and valuable information.
