The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Fiorentino Nuzzolo (ASN: 1707037), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 307th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Argonne Forest, France, 4 October 1918. When his commanding officer had been severely wounded while making a personal reconnaissance of the front lines, Private Nuzzolo, together with a comrade, voluntarily left shelter and went out under heavy machine-gun fire to assist him. Locating him, first aid was administered and he was carried to a place of comparative safety from which he could be evacuated.
