Norris (ASN: 1251007), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Battery E, 107th Field Artillery, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fismes, France, 28 August 1918, Although severely burned by gas, Private Norris refused to be evacuated, voluntarily remaining on duty for two days, repairing telephone connections day and night over shell swept areas from the battery position to the observation post. He worked faithfully, maintaining adequate telephone service until ordered to the rear.
