War Department, General Orders No. 11 (1921)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Nathan Tobiah Nesselson (ASN: 1247301), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 112th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fismes, France, 9 August 1918. Private Nesselson repeatedly exposed himself to heavy enemy fire in order to deliver messages from his company to the battalion commander. In the performance of this mission it was necessary for him to cross the Vesle River, which was constantly swept by enemy machine-gun fire. He volunteered to carry a message after others had been killed in the attempt and continued to perform this perilous duty until he was mortally wounded.
