The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Palmer Orven Narveson (ASN: 2157848), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bellicourt, France, 29 September 1918. When he and two soldiers, separated from the rest of the company, were fired upon from three directions, Sergeant Narveson attacked and demolished a machine-gun nest by himself; and then reduced a second hostile position. Though wounded and slightly gassed, he refused to be evacuated, and continued the advance.
