The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Herman Albert Naiman (ASN: 2716), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 28th Infantry Regiment (Attached), 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Soissons, France, July 18 – 20, 1918. Private Naiman displayed unusual courage and devotion to duty by remaining with the first wave of the attack during the three days of severe fighting and continuing under constant and heavy fire to give first aid to the wounded and assisting in the rescue of injured men.
