Morningstar (ASN: 5830), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 23d Infantry Regiment (Attached), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vaux, France, 1 July 1918. Sick, gassed, and stunned by shells, Sergeant Morningstar remained at his post on duty under heavy fire and bravely assisted in the succoring of soldiers who had been injured, near Vaux, France, 1 July 1918.
