The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal John H. Morgan (ASN: 107912), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Medeah Ferme, France, 3 October 1918. All of his superiors having been killed by a nest of machine guns, Corporal Morgan took command of his platoon and, in an extremely difficult attack, wiped out a nest of five machine guns.
