The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Hans Edwin Morgan (ASN: 2023257), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 47th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Sergy, France, 1 August 1918. After all the other members of his automatic rifle squad had been wounded and evacuated and he himself wounded three times, Private Morgan remained at his post, operating his automatic rifle against a machine-gun nest until his supply of ammunition was exhausted. He then turned his rifle over to another squad before being evacuated.
