The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Thomas Archie Mooreland (ASN: 1312068), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 118th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Martin Revere, France, 17 October 1918. Private First Class Mooreland volunteered to go forward with another soldier to attack a machine-gun emplacement which was holding up a part of our line. Advancing over open ground under heavy fire, these two men destroyed the enemy position, capturing three prisoners and allowing a resumption of the general advance.
