The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private William E. Moore (ASN: 1517995), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Hearne, Belgium, 4 November 1918. Private Moore displayed exceptional personal bravery when, with one other soldier, he went to the assistance of a comrade, who had been attacked and wounded by a patrol of eight Germans, rescued the wounded man and putting the enemy patrol to flight.
