The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Joseph Molik (ASN: 41870), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Soissons, France, 18 July 1918. Although severely wounded in an attack on an enemy machine-gun position, Sergeant Molik continued to direct his platoon in the advance until late in the afternoon, when he was ordered to be evacuated for his wounds.
