The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Frank W. Moehler (ASN: 152347), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Battery E, 42d Field Artillery, Coast Artillery Corps, near Suippes, France, July 14 – 15, 1918. Having been severely wounded early in the German attack on Suippes, Sergeant Moehler continued to direct the firing of his gun crew for eight hours under intense shell fire, remaining on duty until all the ammunition had been expended and orders to withdraw had been received.
