The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Lawrence G. Miller, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 103d Machine-Gun Battalion, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Belleau, France, 18 July 1918. Lieutenant Miller was struck by a piece of shrapnel and knocked unconscious. Upon regaining consciousness and with great difficulty he rejoined and remained with his platoon during the remainder of the attack until his battalion was relieved.
