The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Charles Miller (ASN: 59798), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Trugny Woods, near Chateau-Thierry, France, 23 July 1918. Private Miller, with two other men in an advanced position ahead of the battalion, charged a machine gun, killed four of the enemy, and drove off the rest, thereby making possible the advance of their comrades.
