The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Fielding Voires Meek (ASN: 794639), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 11th Infantry Regiment (Attached), 5th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Liny, France, 5 October 1918, Private Meek distinguished himself by his untiring efforts in administering first aid to the wounded never hesitating to expose himself to danger in searching for wounded on the field. While making his way through unusually heavy machine-gun fire to a wounded soldier, whom he had seen fall, Private Meeks was mortally wounded.
