The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant James P. McSorley (ASN: 273900), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 127th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Roncheres, France, 30 July 1918. Painfully wounded in the left arm, Sergeant McSorley continued to lead his platoon in the face of terrific machine-gun fire, remaining with his men and directing the advance until he was ordered to the rear.
