The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Clare Albert McCullough (ASN: 246695), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company F, 128th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Gesnes, France, 7 October 1918. One of four survivors of a platoon of 41 who attacked Hill 269, Corporal McCullough, with the three others, continued on their mission and held the hill for some time without hope of reinforcements.
