May (ASN: 2337900), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company F, 4th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during a very heavy shell and gas bombardment near Grand Balois Farm on the night of 14 & 15 July, Private First Class May repeatedly volunteered to deliver messages over routes where all previous runners had either been killed or wounded.
