Marshall (ASN: 548161), United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company L, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Marshall constantly carried messages under shell fire, near Crezancy, France, 15 – 24 July 1918, displaying coolness and bravery. His action made it possible to keep up liaison with connecting units. He was wounded on 24 July 1918. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]
